Series 4. Ethics of Online Safety and Security


Maddie is Online’ series 4 contains five animated short video stories on the ethics of online safety and security, created by a total of 25 pupils from 3 schools in Scotland. 

The video animated stories can be found on our YouTube Channel and the titles are the following:

  • Hazlehead Academy - Story 2 title: ‘Violet’
  • St Andrew's and St Bride's High School - Story 1 title: ‘The Yolo Classroom’
  • St Andrew's and St Bride's High School - Story 2 title: ‘The Yphone Scam
Series 4 'Maddie is Online’ animated video competition winner was 'Lucy the Influencer' from Hazlehead Academy in Aberdeen.


Toolkit

Series 4 is also accompanied by a toolkit (90 pages) which is made available in eBook format and addresses the following 5 themes:

Theme 1: Online Behaviours
Theme 2: The Internet of Things
Theme 3: Online Terms and Conditions
Theme 4: Identifying Phishing and Scams
Theme 5: Private and Personal Information

The toolkit includes material suitable for pupils aged 9 – 13 for interactive and multimodal delivery with lesson plans. The toolkit includes online safety and security activities with Lead in Questions which open critical discussions in small groups in class, an Activity Plan which includes questions linked to the written stories, Ideas for Educators which include and briefly describe selected learning activities and resources from external organisations and, where appropriate, external events organised globally on the themes of the series and or ‘Did you Know’ sections, where key other projects or interesting research are introduced.
