'Maddie is Online' Series 3: Copyright is on its way!
'Maddie is Online' Series 3: Copyright.
After a year of delay, due to the current pandemic crisis, we are pleased to announce that we are now developing the third series of 'Maddie is Online' to explore issues around copyright and ownership.
Here is a little trailer.
To develop this episode we are looking at 'Education for a Connected World – 2020 edition: A framework to equip children and young people for digital life', developed by the UK Council for Internet Safety.
'Education for a Connected World' is "a tool for anyone who works with children and young people. It enables the development of teaching and learning as well as guidance to support children and young people to live knowledgeably, responsibly and safely in a digital world. It focuses specifically on eight different aspects of online education":
Self-image and Identity
Online relationships
Online reputation
Online bullying
Managing online information
Health, wellbeing and lifestyle
Privacy and security
Copyright and ownership. (p.1)
The 'Copyright and ownership' strand "explores the concept of ownership of online content. It addresses strategies for protecting personal content and crediting the rights of others as well as addressing potential consequences of illegal access, download and distribution".
Using this framework we are incorporating into the new series aspects of the Creative Commons Licensing protocols When we share, everyone wins - Creative Commons and ways to understand and evaluate the consequences of copyright theft, following a light touch and humorous approach.
In this new series, we have Miss Mason becoming helpful and kind as she returns from space to help children on Earth learn copyright rules.
Miss Mason takes with her Pinachu, a trusted Copyright Advisor she met on Planet Kopious.
Back on Earth, Maddie faces a new challenging adventure in the eyes of a boy who shares one of her drawings and remixes it without her permission. But whose fault is it? Young people are called to make a decision and resolve the case. The final episode presents the People's Court, involving Judge Isaias, who brings order to this everyday life case of copyright infringement with his decisive gavel.
