Generative Artificial Intelligence Skills in Schools

'Maddie is Online' has received funding to design a new series (Series 5) that will be part of the project Generative Artificial Intelligence Skills in Schools (GenAISiS). The project aims to explore the responsible use of Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) and co-create a series of educational resources  (cartoon video stories and an educational toolkit) for secondary schools. It is one of the six projects across the UK that have been awarded a share of £500,000 funding from Responsible Ai UK, a consortium of experts from UK universities working to develop trustworthy artificial intelligence.

The project started in September 2024, partnering with secondary school students, from three Scottish schools, engaging young people in diverse activities using GenAI to find information and create images. GenAISiS has also secured the support of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals in Scotland to organise a series of workshops in summer 2025, where the key findings of the project will be disseminated to schools and the wider research community.
