A public event as part of 'When Fiction Becomes Fact', a Live Life Aberdeenshire project
On 7th of October 2026, we were invited to present a public event at Portlethen Library in collaboration with 'When Fiction Becomes Fact', a Live Life Aberdeenshire project funded by the Scottish Library and Information Council's Public Library Improvement Fund.
'When Fiction Becomes Fact' https://www.livelifeaberdeenshire.org.uk/libraries/fiction-fact/ is an initiative that helps people to navigate safely today’s online world by learning to spot fake news, misinformation, disinformation and online scams. It also includes expert-led talks and events on online safety as well as practical guidance on identifying trustworthy sources and protecting digital identity.
We presented two of our image-based activities as part of our Generative Artificial Intelligence Skills in Schools project, 'Bias Busters, Hallucination Hunters' and the 'Great Art Guess- Off.'
We also showcased testimonials from the children who were involved with the co-creation of our educational resources.
Part of the activities also involved our 'Fact Cards' that explain in easy ways the main concepts of generative artificial intelligence, such as hallucinations, bias, learning from human feedback and the AI black box. We also discussed about humanising the AI, the phenomenon referred to in AI as 'anthropomorphism'.
As part of the event, we made a call for supporting us to bring one of our books to every library locally so we hope that we can materialise this goal!
Thank
you to Responsible Ai UK for their support of this work, and to Aberdeen
Science Centre for their collaboration. We also extend our gratitude to the
Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals in Scotland
(CILIPS) and the School Librarians, Emma Grey (Forfar Academy), Diane Scott
(Hazlehead Academy) and Ioannis Panayiotakis (Eastwood High School) for their
valuable contributions and support throughout this project. Sincere thanks to
the families who took part in the activities and whose engagement made this
project possible, as well as to the young people whose creative talent
originally brought this project to life. Thank
you also to Mr Tim Marsh for allowing us to use the beautiful art piece ‘God of the
Upper World’ and to Ms Alexandra Gapski (Rowan Lewgalon AI Art) for the
fascinating art piece of the jaguar and to the very talented children who donated their drawings.
