An update on the project
'Maddie is Online' Maddie is Online (maddiesonline.blogspot.com), our SLIC SLIF funded project is being featured in the current SLA School Librarian journal. The article has been written by Mr Ioannis Panayiotakis, School Librarian and co-investigator in the project. Project blog: https://maddiesonline.blogspot.com/?m=1 Over this month, we will be posting data reflecting young people's experiences of online connectivity via our Twitter account: @MaddiesOnline, based on our earlier summer school visits (an example is attached below).
Earlier in the summer, we released Series 3 Copyright resources and lesson plans to accompany the latest series. Following the ‘Copyright and Ownership’ strand of 'Education for a Connected World’ framework, the new series explores strategies for protecting personal content and crediting the rights of others, exploring Creative Commons Licenses. Pinachu, the Copyright Alien, visits Earth to teach people good strategies for copying things right and Judge Isaias brings justice on the basis of copy wrong behaviours. Mr Isaias is not afraid to bang his gavel and invites you to be very quiet while the case is presented as otherwise he gets really angry!
Series 3 consists of 8 episodes, each lasts from approx. 5-13 minutes. Total: 1 hour and 17 minutes.
We also shared an article by Dalia Garcia (playing the alien Pinachu in Series 3 Copyright): Voice-over for 'Maddie Is Online', Digital Literacy Project | News | Students | The University of Aberdeen (abdn.ac.uk).
On the basis of the new series, we received an invitation to take part in "I Can’t Believe It’s not Icepops!", where we took part in a 'World Cafe' online session, presenting "Maddie is Online’: The Copyright series. Ready to bang the gavel?". As part of the event, we offered examples of the work of our student interns (Emma Grey and Niall McDonald) on the new series booklets that accompany the series, which are going to be available soon.
If you would like to use any of the 'Maddie is online' resources, please do not hesitate to get in touch. There are already a number of schools in Scotland utilising the resources and we are delighted that it has been received so positively.
